My K1

August 30, 2009

Yo fans,

I haven’t  forgotten you all; I’ve been distracted, a lot. And I have not spent much time on Q.M. stuff, either. But I have been pursuing another of my hobbies; viz, namely, ham radio. I build kit ham sets.

I’ve built several; and  here’s a photo of my latest. It’s an Elecraft K1 (TM); an 80 through 15 meter, low power (QRP) transceiver. And it only transmits cw (morse code).  The photo shows the project in its early stages. The completed front panel unit is shown at the bottom; the completed filter board is on the LHS; and the main, RF (radio frequency) board is at the top–we assemble it last. Also, more or less in the middle are the (many) discrete components that remain to be installed.

BTW, as of this posting I’m farther along than this  photo shows; I’ll put up some more photos  later.

There you have it.

73 (that’s ham talk for ‘best regards’),

Dave,  KI6ACO ( that’s my call  sign)

The Public Option is Not an Option

Sharon and I have private health insurance and Medicare.  But about 50 million Americans have no coverage.  That’s shameful; ‘nuf said  (hey, this  entry is  short enough to go on twitter).

Ch. 3 Free-Particle Propagator

August 15, 2009

Well, here it; what you all have been waiting for so long, now. Yes, I’ve finally finished chapter 3, “Green’s Function and the Free-Particle Propagator.” Go crazy.

Ch 3. Free-Particle Propagator

I’ve found an amazing website, It’s a blog site by this guy, Clark Strand, a Buddhist monk. His latest book is, “How to Believe in God, whether you believe in religion or not.”  If you are a believer, a nonbeliever, or a searcher like me, you owe it to yourself to go to his blog and look for yourself.  And do let me know what you think…

We’re On Google Vioce

August 8, 2009

Well Fans,

Not to be left out on the race to join the new century, we  (that is I), have signed us (that is, the boss and I) for our very own Googe Voice phone number….tadaaaa. I had to  submit an application, and it took about a week to get OK’ed. So, now, you (that is, those of you that are on our ‘A’ list)  can call us by simply dialing 805.616….oops! Anyway, for those of you who are actually on our list, you dial the number, and Google Voice finds us. Is this stuff cool, or what?  Go Google, beat Microsoft!  Yeah.

BTW, you too, can get your own Google  Voice number…you can tell them  I sent you; that should seal the deal.

Einstein’s Puzzle

August 3, 2009

Sorry about the miserable level of posting from yours truly.  But, I’ll try to make up for this dearth of content; I’m almost done with chapter 3 of our QM study.

But, today I go off on another tack. Yes, here it is,  Einstein’s Puzzle; first the clues:

1. The Englishman lives in the red house;

2. The Swede keeps dogs;

3. The Dane drinks tea;

4. The  green house is just to the left of the white one;

5. The owner of the green house drinks coffee;

6. The Pall Mall smoker keeps birds;

7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhills;

8. The man in the center house drinks milk;

9. The Norwegian lives in the first house on the left;

10. The Blend smoker has a neighbor who keeps cats;

11. The man who smokes Blue Masters drinks beer;

12. The man who keeps horses lives next to the  Dunhill smoker;

13. The German smokes Prince;

14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house;  and

15. The Blend smoker has a neighbbor who drinks water.

OK. Five houses all different, and five different nationalities.

Every man has his favorite drink, his favorite brand of smokes, and keeps pets of a particular kind (none the same).

Obviously, your task is to match up each man with his own house, drink, etc.

Oh, and BTW, I wouldn’t spend more than a couple of hours on this.
